Enjoy a Lake Magadi Day Trip with Entice Africa Safaris

Are you in Nairobi for a few days and would like to visit Lake Magadi? Well, we’ve got your back. Lake Magadi is the southernmost lake in the Kenyan Rift Valley. The lake is enclosed by the Aberdares, Loita Hills, and Mau Escarpment; it contains the most concentrated brine in the Kenyan Lake system. At times, this salty lake turns bright pink due to algae blooms.

It’s an amazingly unique and serene destination for nature lovers, bird lovers, and adventure campers. Lake Magadi is well known for its wading birds, including flamingos and pelicans. Some wildlife is also found around the lake; this includes giraffes, antelopes, ostriches, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, and a few lion families that are only seen very early in the morning or at night when the temperatures are low. Elephants and buffalos can be seen in the conservancy to the south of the lake. During the dry season, the lake is mainly covered by soda (sodium carbonate).

A single species of fish, the cichlid Alcolapia grahami, inhabits the hot, highly alkaline waters of this lake basin and is commonly seen in some of the hot spring pools around the shoreline. The hot springs are entirely natural, and you can have a bath at the coolest time of the day. You can also visit a Maasai village to have a glance at their way of life and they can perform a traditional dance for you. The Maasai women also sell their crafts which you can always buy to enhance their livelihood.
